History in 1 Painting (recorded class)
History in 1 Painting (recorded class)
What can we learn about a time period by looking at just one painting? Turns out, quite a lot! Join me to learn about Siena’s Golden Age by examining Ambrogio Lorenzetti’s Allegories of Good and Bad Government and their Effects on the City and the Countryside (ca. 1340), located in Siena’s Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall). What ideals did the Sienese uphold, what did they fear, and can we learn any lessons from them today?
