It is no surprise, but of course the news is disappointing. While Italy is vamping up its vaccination distribution, we will not have achieved the herd immunity necessary to run the Palio. The Palio is more than just a horse race - it involves 6 trial races and at least 4 dinners in the Contrada with hundreds of people. Social distancing is impossible, and the Palio without people is simply not Palio. But watch this space…if all goes well there could be a Palio Straordinario in the fall…incrociamo le dita (fingers crossed)!
